Wash Your Feet
Ideally, you should wash your feet thoroughly every day. Afterwards, dry your feet completely and apply lotion to the tops and bottoms of your feet (avoid in between the toes, as this is a vulnerable area that could lead to infection).
Always Wear Shoes/Socks
Make sure that your shoes fit you well and won’t cause blisters. You shouldn’t go barefoot, as this increases the chance of a minor foot injury that could turn serious.
Keep Blood Flowing
Walking is a great way to keep your feet active and to keep blood flowing. During times of leisure, try to keep your feet elevated rather than on the ground.
Have Regular Checkups with Your Doctor
To ensure that your feet are still healthy and in great shape, we welcome you to schedule an appointment with Dr. Vasiliadis. If anything is out of the ordinary, we can take a closer look and develop a plan of action right away. The Ambulatory Foot Care Center of Tonawanda is proud to see and serve patients across Tonawanda, North Tonawanda, Niagara Falls, and Grand Island, NY who require diabetic foot care.
